Looking back to when we started Apex Mountain Homes, I remember thinking we wanted to be a company that would be around for many years. More than three decades goes pretty fast! The good Lord has blessed me with so many great clients, trusted suppliers, valued employees, and steadfast business partners. My wife and family have been extremely supportive of me throughout my career. I've never done anything else for a living, and wouldn't change it if I could. A heartfelt thanks to all!

Clark Johnson, Owner

Clark was born in heartland USA. Growing up in Eldora, Iowa, Clark learned to ski in Iowa and Minnesota and was introduced to building projects in high school by his wood shop teacher. Although he came to Colorado to seek out big mountain skiing, he soon discovered the joy of building mountain homes with elements of rock, big timbers, and rustic woods.

Clark gained entry into custom home building working for Sierra Building and Design in the early 90’s in Summit County. Then, Brian and Phylecia Platte and he started Apex Mountain Homes in 1994, and for 15+ years Clark worked hands on building numerous custom homes. Now the sole owner of AMH, Clark credits Brian and Phylecia Platte with the many "win-win" business practices still in use today. This experience in home building, along with college courses in business management and architecture, provides clients with a unique set of skills necessary for a successful project and beautiful custom home.

In November 2025, Clark relocated Apex Mountain Homes to Bozeman, Montana, bringing more than 30 years of mountain home building expertise to Big Sky Country. The move allows him to continue his passion for crafting custom luxury mountain homes in a new spectacular setting, while maintaining the same commitment to quality and client relationships that has defined Apex Mountain Homes since its founding.

Clark continues his love of mountain sports including skiing and biking. As Apex Mountain Homes establishes roots in the Bozeman community, Clark looks forward to contributing to worthy causes and building lasting relationships in Montana, just as he did throughout his years in Colorado.
